Highlighting Voices of Color in Boutique Fitness: Meet Misty of Dragonfly Pilates

I’ve spent the last week watching as protests erupted across the United States and have moved worldwide with the purpose of ending racism and shining light on some very uncomfortable truths.  Our world of boutique fitness is filled with dance, song, celebration and movement:  it’s also overwhelmingly filled with white people, white voices and white ideas.

We’re acknowledging there is a problem and taking action.  Our mission has always been to further the success of entrepreneurs and innovators within the boutique fitness space.  To take immediate action, we’re donating to the Swan Dreams Project and Black Girls Code.  While the immediate needs are to address the

needs of those suffering injustice today, we want to invest long term in the education and futures of young black dancers, coders, dreamers, doers and professionals.  Their success is essential to long term change.

In lieu of our planned email and schedule podcast, we’ll be highlighting the incredible Women of Color who have shared their stories and voices on Ready. Aim. Empire, beginning with Misty Lynne Cauthen.

What can I say about Misty, other than she’s one of my favorite people and one of the most recognizable faces of Studio Grow.  Misty is also the amazing studio owner of Dragonfly Pilates and her story is one for the ages.  Her voice is powerful (and hilarious…SNL take note) and she has a lot of wisdom to share.

Follow her on Instagram HERE and LinkedIn HERE.

We hope you join us in listening, learning and sharing the incredible People of Color in boutique fitness.

Regardless of whether you’re donating, dancing, listening, protesting, moving or dreaming up how to invoke change — together we can make our industry and the world around us a better place.

In this episode you’ll learn:

  • How seasons of turmoil led to incredible opportunities for Misty
  • The reasons she know she wanted to open more than one studio {and how that model has changed over the years when it comes to hiring}
  • Her biggest challenges with opening her second studio
  • How a work relationship changed Misty’s mindset and moved her business forward
