What Pandemic Pivoting Looks Like

We have a double treat for you today!

In this episode, we won’t be talking to just ONE rockstar studio owner … we’ll be picking the brains of two!

Today, we’re chatting with Siobhan O’Malley and Patricia Carrera!

Siobhan and Patricia own studios in Northern California and Hawaii respectively, and in this episode, they go into the gory details about how the pandemic initially affected their studios, how they had to pivot, the mindset changes they had to make, and more!

Here’s some of what we covered in this episode:

  • Siobhan shared how she pivoted from a group-based Lagree studio to being more private-focused.
  • She also discusses how she went from having no studio space once her lease was up to running her studio through leasing her equipment and practicing out of people’s homes
  • Patricia chats about her studio, Hot Yoga Kapolei in Hawaii, and the value of perfecting her automations and pricing during the pandemic
  • She also emphasizes the importance of creating scripts for customer service, asking for referrals, and streamlining her intentional intake process

If you’re trying to work through a rough patch in your studio, looking to pivot, or are trying to make automations work for you, this episode is the perfect listen. You’ll get to hear from owners who’ve been there, done that, and who might just serve as huge role models for your business moving forward!

In this episode, you will learn:

  • The various pivots Siobhan made during the pandemic, and how she turned the situation into a success
  • One of the unusual pivots that she says helped her survive during this challenging time when many studios did not
  • Advice for studio owners looking to finish 2021 off strong
  • Why Patricia transitioned from Bikram Yoga to a hot yoga studio
  • What she put into place in her business to grown and scale before Covid-19 impacted the industry
  • Different systems you can implement to make the growing process as painless as possible
  • The tremendous benefits of using sales scripts during sales appointments

With grit and gratitude,

Lisé

Patti Ferry and The Importance of Mindset

In my journey, I’ve been lucky enough to meet some amazing people – those who’ve inspired me in my business, pushed me to work harder, and kept me positive.

And every once in a while, I’ll come across someone whose mindset I just want to absorb and make part of my own.

Today’s guest, Patti Ferry, is one of them!

Patti is the owner of Whole Body Yoga Studio in Pennsylvania.

And despite trying to run her studio in a state with some of the strictest lockdown policies in the country, Patti is the calmest person I’ve ever met. While all of us would be freaking out about the latest lockdown developments, Patti would be her calm, controlled, zen self – nothing could shake her and that’s a quality I’m both envious of and inspired by.

So, in today’s episode of Ready.Aim.Empire, I try to pick Patti’s brain by asking her about how she approached reopening her business so calmly, especially given that her older clientele were especially worried about getting back into the studio.

She also spoke to me about how she’s outsourced her sales process, how she tracks the leads that come into her studio, and why she’s made communication a priority among her team this year.

She also discusses how FOUR other studios within a 3-mile radius of her had closed down during the pandemic, and how behind all that calmness, there’s an extremely motivated and determined person who rejects failure and powers right through any obstacle put in her way.

So, if you’re someone who’s reopening your studio anytime soon, this episode is a must listen!

In this episode, you will learn:

  • Patty’s background and what brought her into this industry
  • What her opening and reopening cycles looked like through the pandemic
  • Where Patty finds a lot of her leads, and what she wasn’t tracking before that she is now
  • Her criteria for finding a team member to be in charge of her sales process
  • What he focus will be on in order to grow the studio moving forward

With grit and gratitude,

Lisé

Michelle Fama and Creating a Client Experience

This week, we’re continuing our journey of listening to some of the best and brightest in the boutique fitness industry – studio owners who’ve managed to thrive through all the curveballs thrown at them this past year.

Today, we’re speaking to Michelle Fama, the owner of Core Pilates in New York City!

Core Pilates is a great example of a studio that was able to pivot and thrive in a tough market like NYC in 2020. And a big part of that was because Michelle and her team worked hard to make sure that their clients were receiving an experience rather than just a series of workouts.

A former journalist, Michelle is blessed with the gift of being able to see the big picture, and right from when she opened her studio in 2002 with a business partner, she knew she wanted Core Pilates to be highly customer-service oriented.

And that customer-service base was what helped them survive and thrive!

So, in today’s episode, Michelle takes us through what she did to ensure clients still walked through her doors in a pandemic, how she runs her NYC studio all the way from California (spoiler alert: it has to do with removing herself from an instructor role!), the importance of teacher training, and so much more!

So, if you’re a studio owner who’s looking for advice on how to move from chaos to clarity right now, this episode is for you.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • How she built her own studio, and then the steps she took to expand it
  • What mindset shifts she needed to make in order to pivot successfully when necessary
  • The strategies used to build out a virtual platform for her business
  • How they evolved from 3 to 6-month memberships, to yearly ones
  • Her advice for studio owners who feel they are on a “hamster wheel” and going nowhere

With grit and gratitude,

Lisé

Rising Goddess Yoga and the Post-Pandemic Masterclass

Y’all, in the last few episodes of Ready.Aim.Empire, I introduced you to some incredible experts in the fitness industry.

Today, we’re beginning a new (and equally exciting!) series, also from the Studio Grow Masterclass we held earlier this year.

For the next few weeks, we’ll be chatting with rockstar studio owners. People just like you who’ve managed to thrive in the pandemic. They’ll be sharing all of their tips, personal experiences, and owner-to-owner advice on how to get more clients through your doors.

We’re starting off with the lovely ladies who own Rising Goddess Fitness in Chicago – Michelle and Lauriel!

Michelle and Lauriel opened their pole and aerial dance studio 8 years ago with a focus on helping their clients feel confident in their bodies, awaken their authentic self, and get in touch with their femininity.

And they’ve been absolutely smashing it this past year!

Not only did they open an expanded space in January 2020, but between March 2021 and now, they’ve managed to add 65 (!!) paying members to their roster!

And today, they’re discussing how they did it – from explaining why having a formal teacher training program is so important to them to breaking down the marketing and nurturing strategies they used to make clients, old and new, WANT to walk into their studio.

This episode is a mini masterclass in itself. So, I highly recommend you pay close attention, especially to the part where Michelle and Lauriel talk making sure every instructor in their studio understands their values!

In this episode, you will learn:

  • The unique challenges that Michelle and Laurial face as owners of a pole/aerial studio
  • What their business model looks like, and the most impactful shift they made during the pandemic
  • How they manage their team to make sure that the company’s values and mission is upheld
  • What their numbers have looked like post-pandemic {since reopening}
  • The main priorities Michelle and Laurial are focusing on over the next few months

With grit and gratitude,

Lisé
