On today’s throwback episode, we’re revisiting Part 3 of my Biggest Mistakes I Made Growing My Business {and How to Avoid Them} series and these top three are doozies (there’s something I love about saving the best…or in this case, maybe worst, for last…you’ll have to listen to find out!).

If you would like to listen to Part 1 and Part 2 of this series, head back to Episode 337 and Episode 337 to get everything leading up to these final lessons on how to swerve past the roadblocks that are keeping you from knocking it out of the park.

Now, I’ll admit, we talk a lot about business here on Ready. Aim. Empire., and some of what you’ll hear in this episode does dive into the business side of mistakes to avoid (like what in the world a KPI is), but on the other side of that business info is some honest-to-goodness soul talk.

Whether it’s trusting others, trusting yourself, dealing with navigating business decisions that call into question your values…

You’ll find that some of the most potentially destructive mistakes and biggest problems begin within. Listen on for some of the biggest bumps in my business journey and my best tips to sidestep them.

    In this episode you’ll learn:

    • The influence my mother had on me as an entrepreneur, and a lesson she taught me that I have never forgotten
    • How I relinquished control and learned to genuinely start to trust people and create the team needed for building an empire
    • What KPIs and metrics are {and why you need to know them}
    • The ways I maintain a positive mindset momentum, even in the face of significant health challenges

      I’m a runner.

Not just the pavement-hitting kind, when I have an idea, I run with it.

It’s been a gift, but boy, let me tell me you, hindsight’s 20/20.

And it wasn’t long into my entrepreneurial journey that I realized that I could use the lessons I learned from hindsight, to help others make decisions.

In this throwback episode, I’m diving into my few biggest mistakes around building a team.

Without a shadow of a doubt, I can say I couldn’t have grown the companies I had {and have} or achieved the freedom I desired without the teams I’ve built.

Over the last decade I’ve hired well over 100 people, but of course, that experience didn’t come without its own lessons learned from the rearview, which I’m sharing with you in today’s episode so you can sidestep my bumps in the road and hopefully have a smoother journey to success.

      In this episode you’ll learn:

      • Why you need to stop “DIY’ing” and hire smart to catapult you to a place of growth
      • Getting clear on defining the roles within your business and finding the right time to hire
      • How to be direct about the expectations you have for your team and how to address struggles with your employees to preserve and strengthen relationships
      • Understanding your role as a leader within your business and why you should never stop seeking out mentors to help boost your leadership skills
      • The importance of reaching out for help and why it’s mandatory for your success

“It’s not rest when you feel bad about it. I finally granted myself permission to take a breather.”

That’s Angie McDermott’s philosophy when it comes to her health and it’s for good reason. Angie has fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, and as the owner of Konscious Body Fitness:

        She takes naps.

She ensures her body gets enough sleep.

        She drinks gallons of water.

She said buh-bye to her jeans due to them being uncomfortably painful. And she “doesn’t even drunk dial them.”

We could steal a page from her self-care manual, y’all. Too often we ignore our own health.

Guys, it’s not an either/or situation: Either I’m healthy or I have a successful business. Instead, it’s a both/and situation: I’m healthy and I have a successful business.

        Angie embodies that mentality.

That’s not the only reason we chose to bring this episode back to feature on the Best of Ready, Aim, Empire.

Because a couple years into her career, she took a 6-month hiatus because of burnout. Her health was suffering — that impeccable self-care routine we just talked about was not in place. She’s rebounded from that place of reevaluation into success’ golden seat and, oh boy, she’s got some tasty secrets to share on the mindset needed for that leap.

        In this episode, you’ll learn:

        • What made Angie decide to focus on athletic training and how she got the confidence to succeed in her chosen field
        • How a burnout led to her next business endeavor
        • The role that mindset and the mental game has played in the development of her career
        • How significant her health issues have impacted her physically {and mentally}… but haven’t prevented her from building a thriving business
        • Her suggestions on finding the support to help you succeed

It doesn’t matter whether we think of ourselves as “risk-averse” or adrenaline junkies, we all experience some level of fear when making significant changes or decisions, even if it’s just a twinge.

Part of this fear is our brain’s natural response to keep us “safe,” but what our brain doesn’t always realize is that, this time it’s not keeping us safe from an attack, it’s holding us back from our true potential.

In this week’s episode of the Best of Ready, Aim, Empire we’re revisiting Misty Cauthen to talk about the uncomfortable business changes she made (the kind with risks that would make most people throw in the towel).

Failure wasn’t an option for Misty and she made it work.In this episode, we discuss her journey to opening her first studio, the roadblocks she faced in growing her business, the move to open her second studio, and how her ‘risky decisions’ have helped her turn her studio business into a well oiled machine.

          In this episode you’ll learn:

          • How seasons of turmoil led to incredible doors of opportunity that opened for Misty
          • Why she wanted to open more than one studio {and how her model has changed over the years from hiring to business operations and finances}
          • Her biggest challenges with opening her second studio and how she worked through them and overcame them
          • How different work relationships have changed Misty’s mindset and moved her business forward
