Best of Ready. Aim. Empire: Turn a One Star Review into Your Studio’s Best Advertisement

If you’re looking for a new restaurant to check out this Friday night and have multiple options in front of you, how do you decide?

Like me {and most of America!}, you’ll turn to reviews on Google, Yelp, or Facebook. And, five minutes later, you know which restaurant you’ll be dining at this Friday night: one with gushing reviews about the menu, drinks, staff.

Your studio is no different – which means reviews are extremely crucial!

In this throwback episode, we’ll be readdressing how negative ratings and reviews can quickly sour a potential client and turn them away… unless you are proactive and flip that negative review 180-degrees into a shining example of how you handle and run your studio.

And that, y’all, makes a doggone strong case for why a potential client should come to your studio vs the one across the street.

Instead of stressing about  unkind words, think of the negative review as your prime opportunity to showcase how your studio is different – even down to how you handle harsh criticism.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • Your best approach for responding to a negative review + how to stay cool in the face of {sometimes} overwhelming negativity
  • How to turn a negative review into a 4 (or 5!) star review
  • Tips on removing a review on Yelp, Google, and Facebook
  • Why your response has incredible power and how to approach it {without taking their comments personally}
  • Ways to give your clients the opportunity to take care of your business

Best of Ready. Aim. Empire: The Inspiration Behind Studio Grow

On Ready. Aim. Empire, we cover pretty much every possible facet of running a wellness and mind-body studio based on my experiences owning a studio, as well as the experiences and stories of other studio owners across the globe (some of which are my incredible students who have gone through my signature program, The Client Cure).

But my experience as a business consultant, funnily enough, didn’t start in fitness and wellness. Nope, it began with my tailor!

And in this throwback episode, you’ll hear the whole exciting story: from where we started (yes, my tailor) to how we’ve grown past that first little consulting gig into a successful business that is taking on a new brand identity!

So in today’s episode of the Best of Ready. Aim. Empire, I’m revisiting the introduction of Studio Grow – how we came to be, where we’re at now, and where we’re going next.

Things you’ll learn in this episode:

  • What lead me to start a small consulting business and how it evolved with time
  • Why we decided that my business needed a shift and how one of those shifts included a new name of our business
  • Why it took a year to launch new branding and website
  • A look forward to meeting my staff in the upcoming weeks!

Best of Ready. Aim. Empire: Maggie Yeung and Small Town Yoga

Losing a parent is always devastating.

Losing your mom as a child?

That can feel impossible to bounce back from. You suffer from an ugly trifecta of anxiety, stress, depression. But, sometimes out of that black night of grief is born an idea so true, beautiful, and honest you can’t help but follow it anywhere. Including back to your hometown.

That is exactly what Maggie Yeung, owner of Homegrown Yoga, did.

In today’s throwback episode, we follow Maggie’s journey as she did what any girl from a small Kentucky town does: go explore that big, exciting world.

Now, she owns a yoga studio ½ mile from the neighborhood she grew up in. You’ll wanna hear how she got from there to here.

In the wake of her mom’s death, she says, “Yoga was the one thing that helped me keep on track.” That’s exactly what she wants her community to find: the mental yoga practice – not a 1-sided physical practice.

Her mission is to break down the mental barriers her small town has against yoga {like “I’m not flexible enough,” “I’m not thin enough,” “I’ve never done it before”}. And she’s doing it in some pretty doggone fun ways like yoga with pygmy goats or on a castle’s roof.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • What Maggie’s athletic background is {and why it tee’d her up perfectly to teach yoga}
  • Who in her life introduced her to yoga
  • Why she picked the small town of Pawleys Island over Charlestown as her first studio’s location
  • How she’s spicing up her studio’s marketing, tapping into her creative side, and connecting with her community in unexpected ways

On today’s throwback episode, we’re revisiting Part 3 of my Biggest Mistakes I Made Growing My Business {and How to Avoid Them} series and these top three are doozies (there’s something I love about saving the best…or in this case, maybe worst, for last…you’ll have to listen to find out!).

If you would like to listen to Part 1 and Part 2 of this series, head back to Episode 337 and Episode 337 to get everything leading up to these final lessons on how to swerve past the roadblocks that are keeping you from knocking it out of the park.

Now, I’ll admit, we talk a lot about business here on Ready. Aim. Empire., and some of what you’ll hear in this episode does dive into the business side of mistakes to avoid (like what in the world a KPI is), but on the other side of that business info is some honest-to-goodness soul talk.

Whether it’s trusting others, trusting yourself, dealing with navigating business decisions that call into question your values…

You’ll find that some of the most potentially destructive mistakes and biggest problems begin within. Listen on for some of the biggest bumps in my business journey and my best tips to sidestep them.

In this episode you’ll learn:

  • The influence my mother had on me as an entrepreneur, and a lesson she taught me that I have never forgotten
  • How I relinquished control and learned to genuinely start to trust people and create the team needed for building an empire
  • What KPIs and metrics are {and why you need to know them}
  • The ways I maintain a positive mindset momentum, even in the face of significant health challenges
