Best of Ready.Aim.Empire: Christa Gurka and the Digital Product

As we prepare for a second shut down, it’s important to turn our efforts into the things that’ll truly move the needle for a financial secure studio.

And in our books, amping up your digital services is on top of that list.

Which is why we’re bringing back this episode with the brilliant Christa Gurka, CEO of Pilates in the Grove.

This episode did air fairly recently. However, we felt like there was nothing more timely than a studio owner talking about how she built her digital empire and the unique strategies that have helped her digital storefront grow.

With Christa’s tips, you can start revamping your digital strategies, think about the future of your team, and build out your teacher training strategy.

These are scary times, but being prepared is the only way to tide this through.

In this throwback episode, you will learn:

  • The unique approach Christa has taken with the digital strategy for her business
  • The ways Christa’s online teacher training is improving the experience for her clients
  • Strategies for launching on demand services on a limited budget

With grit and gratitude,

Lisé

Amy Lafko and Understanding Crisis Leadership (Part 2)

We’ve all had to rewrite our curriculum in 2020.

And a huge part of that has been figuring out how we want to present ourselves as leaders.

Here are three of my leadership takeaways from 2020 that all studio owners can keep in mind:

  1. You can’t be the CEO just on paper. Being a CEO is as much about the terrible lows as it is about those incredible highs.
  1. You need to have an extraordinary commitment to self-integrity.
  1. If you don’t feel excited by the concept and idea of leadership and feel you’re much better off in a more creative role, you need to have the guts to say ‘maybe being a CEO isn’t for me’.

Y’all, none of the above are easy to do.

And most of them require a radical change in your existing leadership mindset and style.

Which is why Amy Lafko, the CEO of Cairn Consulting Solutions, is back with us for Part 2 of our mini-series on leadership!

Amy’s business tries to help leaders become the best versions of themselves and adapt to changing times.

And in her 1:1 mentorships, she’s known to help leaders shed their existing skins so they can grow into the kinds of heads their team needs.

In today’s episode, Amy shares her views on the difference between a good leader and a bad one (spoiler alert: it comes down to just one thing!), how leadership has to evolve with your business, and what your 200 hours of leadership training should look like.

Y’all, Amy has made a career off of coaching people to become the best possible leaders for their businesses. So listen closely to her advice!

In this episode, you will learn:

  • How to begin owning up to your role and responsibilities as a CEO and leader of your team
  • Why soft skills are the most important of all the skills that a leader can possess
  • What to do if you don’t necessarily want to be the CEO or leader
  • Ways to bridge the financial gap when it comes to growing your company
  • Tips on how develop your growth mindset – and why you should always be striving to do this

Amy Lafko and Understanding Crisis Leadership

When people think of running a business in times of crisis, they think about three things:

  • Profit
  • Their bottomline
  • Maintaining income stability

Now, I would be a pretty terrible coach if I told you those things weren’t important at all.

In fact, they’re doggone crucial in making sure your business’ disaster plan is airtight.

But, there’s one crucial element that studio owners keep missing.

It’s something that makes them freeze up whenever I talk to them about it:

Leadership

Y’all, what about the importance of the right kind of leadership at a time of crisis?

I understand that this is the first time owners in the industry are seeing this kind of widespread, global disaster. And I also understand that it’s tough to wrap your head around how best to lead right now.

But remember this, leadership IS more important now than ever. Turnover and employee dissatisfaction are not just often crushing blows to the heart, but they’re also very real reasons for lost money.

And they’re problems good leadership and open communication can solve.

Which is why today’s guest, Amy Lafko, the CEO of Cairn Consulting Solutions, is one of the most important people you can be listening to right now.

Through her business, Amy tries to help other leaders become the best version of themselves and focuses on helping them adapt as their businesses change.

And boy have we seen a lot of change in 2020.

In this episode, Amy and I talk about what crisis leadership really entails, how to deal with the feeling of letting your team down, the importance of constant communication, how to avoid hiring mistakes, and SO much more.

I’m not going to lie, this is probably one of the most stacked episodes we’ve ever had, with Amy sharing nuggets of wisdom in what feels like every second. So make sure you’re taking notes!

In this episode, you will learn:

  • What Amy is noticing and seeing in the field of leadership right now, and what she feels will happen in 2021
  • How she is helping her clients prepare for a second, and even third wave, of the pandemic
  • The discussions she is having with people around layoffs
  • What leadership should look like for a studio in the startup phase
  • The tools Amy is using with her clients within their hiring process
  • What are the essential pieces of an effective communication system, and how this will evolve as a business grows
  • Some of the different challenges that will present themselves at each stage as a business grows
