Podcast Episode 71: From Blog to Book- Turning Your Blog Into An Entrepreneurial Building Block

I want to take you back 6 years to to my friend Gretchen Brown’s kitchen.

She was just starting her blog Kumquat and I got to be her guinea pig with recipes.

Now, Gretchen is a registered dietician with experience in recipe development and food styling for big corporations like Weight Watchers and Cooking Light. So to say she knew what she was doing was a total understatement.

She started her blog because she found out she was Celiac.

Did you start a business from a personal struggle you had? I’ve heard time and time again how entrepreneurs started their business out of fulfilling their own need.

And boy this was a need that more than just Gretchen had.

I also suffer from Celiac so I personally benefitted from this amazing blog.

Before this blog and many others, being told you had to be gluten-free was a death sentence. It was being told you were going to be eating cardboard carbs the rest of your life.

So the fact that Gretchen was able to create such tasty treats was mind-blowing to me!

Gretchen kept it really simple starting out, which will be such a relief for y’all to hear.

Listen into Episode 071 and you’ll learn:

  • How Gretchen started a blog for personal reasons and ended up where she is today!
  • Starting out, your business doesn’t require state of the art software or equipment
  • How a blog was able to bring massive opportunities to Gretchen
  • Blogs are creating and serving people in AMAZING ways
  • How is a blog, in certain ways, like an online portfolio?
  • Being an author can give credibility to you
  • Learn more about how Gretchen supports other bloggers
  • How this career has given Gretchen freedom when it comes to being a family in the military

Podcast Episode 70: {Epic Mindset Shifts} Avoiding the People Pleaser Plague

I’m talking about a mini mindset shift lesson today to break through something that may be holding you back in your business.

The fact of the matter is, we provide names to ourselves each and every day. Subconsiously, even. I’m not talking about your given name.

It’s who you are, how you behave, what you do.

Some are incredibly positive….

You’re so beautiful.

You’re so strong.

You’re a great teacher.

And others….they’re the kinds of names that hold us back every single day.

You’re not good at talking to people.

You aren’t meant to be on stage.

You can’t achieve that kind of success.

So over the years, I’ve started deciphering my names.

My parents used to call me creative and free-spirited which actually has held me back in a lot of ways (not intentional from my parents, I’m sure).

Listen into Episode 070 and you’ll learn:

  • How we carry the name that was given to us into our adulthood (and how this can hold us back)
  • The way we can rewrite the names that we have given ourselves, today.

Podcast Episode 68: When Cancer Comes Calling: Being the CEO When Tragedy Hits Home

I got a reminder recently that when life throws you curveballs, it’s affect your business.

About five months ago, my husband, the most magical man you’ll ever meet, went to a dermatologist appointment for standard stuff. He had put it off for months so he was really due.

The doctor had taken one mole in for some testing and we thought nothing of it.

Then after weeks of travel, we got some news back that it had been cancerous.

Guys, I can’t tell you how much this rocked my world.

I had multiple family members, including my dad, who passed away from cancer.

It was an emotional roller coaster, but it was a miracle that we found it so early on and a miracle that we can move on.

Thankfully, it was just a few short weeks of uncertainty to now have it under control.

But the fact is, when tragedy comes calling, family comes first.

And you can imagine when business comes second, balls are dropped, clients get upset and things fall to the wayside.

There are ways to mitigate how to handle this.

I’m going to reveal 4 of them to help you when the realest moments in your life happen and your business may have to suffer.

Listen into Episode 068 and you’ll learn:

  • How to communicate to your staff when personal tragedies are occurring
  • How opportunity can come from tragedy
  • Why having systems in place can save your business if you have to step away
  • Embrace the fall back!
  • The top three areas where there systems should be in place
  • Customer services is how we live, breathe and die
  • Give yourself grace….
