Podcast Episode 43: Skip The Sleaze and Learn How We Turn Every Client Into Three More

I was so afraid of referrals.

I wanted to avoid asking for them so badly that I would drown my businesses in ad spend and waste money on getting cold leads.

But what if I told you that referrals really are the lifeblood of your business?

I’m going to bust 2 big misconceptions you probably have about referrals (and let’s be honest, I had the same ones until Myken Daeda, my operations director, was able to show me the value).

Misconception #1 – People are going to think you’re just asking them to do one more thing.

This was my biggest hangup. I was usually asking people to put down a hefty amount of money and asking for referrals felt like I was just squeezing them of everything they had.

However, if you come from a different place (what I like to call soulful selling), then they won’t feel that way. Plus, Myken talks about how you introduce the referral opportunity throughout the whole sales conversation.

Misconception #2 – Referrals were equivalent to cold calling.

Again, this was me. It made me really uncomfortable.

However, Myken taught me that referrals are the warmest leads you’re going to get. And here’s why –

It goes back to building that trust with the person first. They are going to refer people in their lives who they love and who are part of their support system. Whatever service or product you’re selling, their support group will most likely need you as well.

Referrals are your cheapest lead because they are free. If your 1 client can turn into 3 or 4 with little additional work, that’s a win right there!

Myken and I discuss her 8 consistent steps to gain referrals from your clients at the point of the sale.

One of my clients in Nebraska was able to create consistent 5 figure months using just referrals. Pretty incredible stuff, guys.

Listen in on Episode 43 and you’ll learn

  • How one client can turn into four with referrals!
  • Why referrals are the warmest lead you can get
  • Why so some people think referrals are taboo

Podcast Episode 41: A Look Back at 2016 {and what I’m planning for 2017}

Guys, I love being back home in Louisiana because it immediately brings me back to my formative years.

Diving into science fair projects and talking with my mom about my purpose – it all comes rushing back to me as I sit at the very dining room table of my childhood home.

So looking back, this year was a game changer. And it was all because of  these 3 actions I took.

Action #1 – I sold all of our brick and mortar companies.

Nine years ago, I built these companies creating massive impact on the communities we were in.

I really only had 1 reason for beginning this journey – it was for my companies to be a profit center and become our family’s nest egg.

We weren’t out to buy fancy 500 feet yachts. We just wanted the freedom to explore the world and teach my son how to give from what we were blessed with.

It truly was a hard time for me to let go of my teams and the communities we touched. But with what was coming next with my child, Remy’s schooling and my husband potentially retiring soon, we needed to make a change. We knew it was time to move on.

Action #2 – We built an online business that had a revenue of over $500,000 in 11 months.

I’m taking a deep breath as I say this because it has been a whirlwind of an experience. Seeing the success of this business has been remarkable and exciting to watch.

We built this one step by step on a very thoughtful foundation.

I’m a girl with a purpose and I wanted to help businesses get to where they want to be. Whether they were just starting out, had $3,000 a month in revenue or were making millions, I knew we could massively impact their businesses.

And that impact grows past just the business owners. It affects their teams, clients, their client’s families, and beyond.

I love leaving a legacy that extends way farther than myself.

And last, Action #3 – I worked loosely with people in a private capacity.

I love working with people and talking with people. And to see the change myself, it brought such delight into my life. This truly is where my high is as a business owner.

Those 3 actions happened because of 5 specific reasons. And I’m going to share those on the podcast today.

Listen in to Episode 41 and you’ll learn

  • How my journey lead me to my purpose
  • What do you want to leave as you legacy?
  • The importance of listening to the market
  • Why you have to know and own your worth

Podcast Episode 40: Do I Need to Hire an Employee, Independent Contractor or Freelancer?

You know you need to hire someone to help you in your business.

You ask around in Facebook Groups who people have hired and how have they worked out.

You look for recommendations all over the Internet and you realize that you don’t just have to understand what responsibilities this person will have but the TYPE of hire they are.

In my past business of owning yoga studios, there were lawsuits all the time about independent contractors actually being eligible for being unfairly targeted. They should’ve been employees according to the law.

This is scary stuff and you really don’t want to be messing around here.

There are significant differences between employees, independent contractors and freelancers.

Employees – As an employer, you can control what they do and how they do it. You also are required to pay the taxes on this employee and deliver benefits like insurance, retirement, etc…

Independent Contractors – These folks are trading their services for your money. You can’t control their hours, what the results of their work should be and how they should do it. You aren’t required pay taxes on this individual nor benefits. Independent contractors normally work with 1-2 people for generally a long time

Freelancers – This person is strictly a “by the hour” service-based business on projects for multiple clients. Like Independent Contractors, you can’t control their hours and how they do things. You also aren’t required to pay taxes on them.

Listen into Episode 040 and you’ll learn:

  • How the IRS defines “employee” and “independent contractor”
  • What are the “common law” rules of an employee?
  • About enforceable non-competes
  • What is a non-solicitation clause and how that affects both independent contractor and your clients?
  • There are different laws and regulations for hiring employees in different states across the United States
  • What is a Factor 20 Test?
