Pam Brown, Jen Downham, and Mastering the Pre-Sale

Pre-Sales are stressful for any studio owner.

Not only are they an indication of how many clients are truly interested in your services, they also require a lot of thought, strategy, and a seriously competent team to pull off.

In today’s episode, I’d like to introduce y’all to two studio owners who knocked their pre-sale game out of the park – Pam Brown and Jen Downham.

Owning studios in Brooklyn, NYC and Sheffield, UK  respectively, Pam and Jen managed to have incredible pre-sales for their new locations despite being hit by some of the most intense lockdown regulations in the world.

In fact, between the two of them, they’ve managed to sign hundreds of new members in pre-sales!

Today, they take us through the sales strategies, hiring hacks, client journeys they put in place to make these numbers happen.

Pam and Jen, though very different studio owners in two very different markets, show all studio owners that it’s possible to rise from setback to success.

And the good news? They’re open to revealing their secrets!

In this episode, you will learn:

  • The tools and strategies that Pam used as she prepares to reopen her wellness center after a very successful first week of presales
  • What she did to restructure her wellness center to be more streamlined
  • Why Jen placed such a high importance on the client experience after opening their second location
  • The ways that Jen and her team decided on a client avatar, and how they then built and developed the total experience around that
  • Her thoughts and tips for asking for the reviews to build the brand
  • How expanding can be easy {with the right processes and automation pieces in place

With grit and gratitude,

Lisé

Julia, Emily, and How to Build the Right Team

If you ask my what the most important part of running a studio is, I’ll always answer with the same thing:

Building a doggone incredible team.

Your team is at the heart of everything you do – from client attraction, to revenue generation, to sales and marketing.

If you have the right team behind you, you can take over the world.

And my two guests for this week’s episodes are living proof!

My first guest is Julia Bowen, the founder of Yoga by Julia in New Mexico.

After building two successful studios in New Mexico, Julia decided that it was time for some personal change. So, she packed up, moved to LA, and decided to work as a remote studio owner.

With that came the pressure to build a team that represented her and her studio’s unique mission in her physical absence. And she passed the test with flying colors!

Not only is Julia’s team an extension of her, they also embody her ethos, and fill in her weaknesses. And in this episode, she breaks down how she scouted her Avengers-worthy team, the first role she looked into hiring, the power of social media stalking, and more!

My second guest is the amazing Emily Montgomery. A valuable part of the Studio Grow team, Emily was the COO of a major fitness franchise and has witnessed studios rise and fall because of their teams. In this episode, she discusses the power of a great leader and how to curb your expectations when it comes to your team.

If you consider team-building to be your weakness, this episode is for you!

In this episode, you will learn:

  • The first hire Julia had to make after moving to LA to begin her career as a remote owner
  • Why having the right manager in place is such an important decision to make
  • Tips for finding instructors with major talent who are also a fit for your culture
  • What happened for Julia’s business when things opened back up after the Covid lockdowns
  • What people want post-Covid, and how Julia identified it and shifted her offers to that need
  • Emily’s experience as a COO in corporate
  • Her thoughts on expectations, contacts, and incentives for instructors
  • The role that your leadership and mentorship of your team will play in the studio

With grit and gratitude,

Lisé

Peter Pastijn, Nic Lenny and the Global Perspective

We’re going global in today’s episode!

Studio Grow has had the privilege of working with many incredible studio owners and coaches from all over the world.

And today, we’re chatting with two of them – Peter Patijn and Nic Lenny!

Peter (a familiar face for regular Ready.Aim.Empire listeners) is the founder of The Room in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

What’s so special about Peter is that he runs an incredibly successful studio in the Middle East … all the way from Belgium!

A true remote studio owner, Peter shares his tips for other remote owners, breaks down the single most important process he’s implemented to ensure his studio always runs smoothly, and his tools for day-to-day management.

Then, we’re hopping across the channel to Nic Lenny, who owns two pilates studios in Bristol, UK.

As someone who recently opened her second studio, Nic discusses the challenges and advantages of opening a second location and how she managed to double her revenue while still having time for herself.

She also discusses her sold-out luxury retreats and how she attracts clients to them!

If you’ve been wanting a global perspective to run your own business, this episode is for you!

In this episode, you will learn:

  • The single most important factor in being successful as a remote owner
  • Key tools that Peter has used in his day-to-day operations while being a remote owner
  • The way he incorporates four different modalities within his studio
  • How Nic restructured her studio business into a life of freedom
  • A look at her luxury Pilates retreats, and what type of marketing and sales they implemented to sell them out months in advance

Leslie Parker and Online Teacher Training

Whenever I talk to studio owners about creating an online teacher training program, they always respond with variations of the same thing:

Lise, how on earth am I supposed to do that?

I get it. Trying to coach movement-based teachers online isn’t easy.

But, it can be done.

And today’s guest is living proof!

Leslie Parker is the founder of the Mindful Movement Centre in Toronto – a studio specializing in private, one-on-one boutique fitness. And she’s also managed to created a prestigious, unique, and insanely successful online pilates teacher training program.

In today’s episode, Leslie breaks down how her program majorly helps hiring for her studio, why it’s important for teacher trainings to be unique, and how going online helped rather than hindered her program’s success.

If you’re on the fence about starting your own teacher training program, let this episode be your motivation!

In this episode, you will learn:

  • How Leslie incentivizes her team members for teaching training in a hyper-specialized world of Pilates

  • What it looked like to offer teacher training during COVID, and how she made the leap to online training
  • The strategies behind Leslie’s teacher training that made it so successful
  • Why this teacher training was so effective in creating the best groups of Pilates teachers yet

With grit and gratitude,

Lisé
